How to Record Screen on iPhone

Introduction to Screen Recording on iPhone

Screen recording is a useful feature that allows you to capture a video of your iPhone’s screen activity, which can be handy for creating tutorials, sharing gameplay clips, or troubleshooting issues. With the built-in screen recording feature on iPhone, you can easily capture your screen activity, including any sounds, voiceovers, or music playing in the background.

Screen recording on iPhone is available on iOS 11 or later, and it’s accessible from the Control Center. The feature offers several customization options, such as selecting the microphone source for audio recording, enabling or disabling camera recording, and adjusting the video quality.

In the following sections, we’ll explore how to access the screen recording feature on your iPhone and how to customize its settings to get the best results. We’ll also cover how to record your screen with audio, and how to edit and share your screen recording once you’ve captured it.

How to Access Screen Recording Feature on iPhone

To start using screen recording on your iPhone, you first need to add the feature to your Control Center. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Control Center.
  3. Scroll down and find Screen Recording.
  4. Tap the green plus sign next to Screen Recording to add it to your Control Center.

Once you’ve added the screen recording feature to your Control Center, you can access it by following these steps:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to open the Control Center.
  2. Tap the Screen Recording icon, which looks like a white circle inside a gray square.
  3. To start recording, tap the red circle icon. You’ll see a three-second countdown before the recording begins.

If you don’t see the Screen Recording icon in your Control Center, make sure you’ve added it to your Control Center settings. If it’s still not there, your iPhone may not support screen recording or you may need to update your iOS to the latest version.

Customizing Screen Recording Settings on iPhone

Once you’ve accessed the screen recording feature on your iPhone, you can customize its settings to suit your needs. Here are the available customization options:

  1. Microphone audio: You can choose to record audio from your device’s built-in microphone, an external microphone, or no audio at all.

  2. Camera recording: You can choose to include or exclude the front-facing camera in your screen recording. This is useful if you want to include a video of yourself presenting or providing commentary.

  3. Video quality: You can choose to record in either standard or high quality. Higher quality videos will take up more storage space on your device.

  4. Record button: You can choose to show or hide the red recording button in the status bar while recording.

To customize these settings, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Control Center and tap the Screen Recording icon.
  2. Press and hold the Screen Recording icon until you see the Screen Recording options menu.
  3. Tap the Microphone audio or Camera recording icons to toggle them on or off.
  4. To change the video quality, go to Settings > Control Center > Screen Recording > Video Quality, and choose Standard or High.
  5. To show or hide the record button in the status bar, go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls, and tap the green plus sign next to Screen Recording to add it or remove it from your Control Center.

By customizing these settings, you can ensure that your screen recording captures exactly what you need, without any unwanted audio or video.

Recording Screen with Audio on iPhone

By default, screen recording on iPhone doesn’t capture any audio. However, you can choose to record audio from your device’s microphone, an external microphone, or your device’s system audio. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open the Control Center and tap the Screen Recording icon.
  2. Press and hold the Screen Recording icon until you see the Screen Recording options menu.
  3. Tap the Microphone audio icon to toggle it on.
  4. If you want to record system audio (i.e., the sounds playing on your device), press and hold the Screen Recording icon again, then tap the red Record button. Before the recording starts, long-press the Screen Recording icon again and select “Record with Microphone Off” to enable system audio recording.

Note that recording system audio on iPhone requires a third-party app, such as the free app called “Shou” from the App Store.

If you’re using an external microphone to record audio, make sure it’s properly connected to your iPhone before you start recording. Once you’ve set your audio preferences, tap the red Record button to start recording your screen with audio. When you’re done, tap the red recording button again to stop the recording.

Editing and Sharing Your Screen Recording on iPhone

Once you’ve recorded your screen on iPhone, you can edit and share the video with others. Here’s how:

  1. After you’ve stopped recording, the video will be saved to your Photos app.
  2. Open the Photos app and find the screen recording video you just created.
  3. Tap the video to open it and then tap the Edit button.
  4. Use the editing tools to trim the video, adjust the brightness or contrast, or add filters or text.
  5. When you’re done editing, tap Done.
  6. To share the video, tap the Share button and choose how you want to share it, such as via AirDrop, email, or social media.

You can also use third-party video editing apps, such as iMovie or Adobe Premiere Rush, to edit your screen recording video further. Once you’ve edited your video, you can share it with others, upload it to YouTube or other video hosting sites, or save it to your device for later viewing.
